Orchestra Director position in Fayetteville (2/21)
The Fayetteville Public School District in Fayetteville, Arkansas is looking for a new orchestra director to reinstate a strings program in our school district. A small pilot strings program has been in place for 4 years at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels with very positive response and participation. Grants from the Fayetteville Public Education Foundation have provided over $20,000 in funds over the past 2 years, which has purchased instruments, music and storage to build this new strings program. Our new superintendent and administration is extremely supportive of a strings program and they have directed a strategic plan for restatement of a strings program to begin the 2012-2013 school year. The Fayetteville Public Schools will be opening the brand new fine arts facility for the 2012-2013 school year. This facility includes an orchestra room, orchestra director’s office, storage, a set-up budget, and a brand new 850 seat auditorium with an orchestra pit. Fayetteville, AR is the home of the University of Arkansas which is literally a 2-minute walk up the hill from the Fayetteville High School Campus. The University of Arkansas Music Department and string faculty are extremely supportive of our new strings program and has provided volunteer instructors, master classes and facilities to our string students. The University Orchestra is strong and is a great resource to our students. They have and continue to actively support the pilot strings program and desire to maintain a working relationship with our directors and students. The UofA supports a Community Music School which partners with “The String Coalition” for string ensemble experience and also provides opportunities for students to receive private instruction. The UofA also has a Suzuki Music School that is a branch of the UofA School of Music. Fayetteville, AR is home to the Walton Arts Center who hosts the Symphonic Orchestra of Northwest Arkansas (SONA). The Walton Arts Center also has provided many opportunities for master class experiences with visiting artists for our music students. Nearby Bentonville, AR is host to the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra (APO). Fayetteville is neighbor to Bentonville, AR (headquarters for Wal-Mart) and Rogers, AR which both have very strong string programs. All string directors in Northwest Arkansas are thrilled with our current success and have been supportive of helping our program build its foundation. This year, 2012-13, Fayetteville High School was proud to have 3 of their string students qualify for the Arkansas All-State Orchestra and was honored to have two of those students place as concert master and assistant concert master. Fayetteville’s string program is ready to grow and flourish and we are looking for a qualified director to be make this program soar to great heights and to be a part of an amazing experience as we enrich the lives of many students through this new strings program.
