The College of Fine Arts and Communication invites applications and nominations for the tenure-track position of
Director of Choral Activities, Assistant Professor (9 month) in the Department of Music. The department enjoys
endowments and private scholarship funds of approximately $1.5 million, annual university performance
scholarships of $800,000, a visiting artist series, and NASM accreditation. Many performances are presented in the
new state-of-the-art, 1200-seat, Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall.
The department serves 220 majors and minors, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees: BA, BM
(Composition, Music Education, Performance, Piano Pedagogy), MM (Performance, Music Education,
Conducting, Theory), as well as a Graduate Certificate program. The faculty is composed of 37 full-time and 15
adjunct members, most of whom have national and international reputations.
Responsibilities & Qualifications: The Director of Choral Activities will oversee and coordinate the university’s
choirs and choral activities, including; conducting UCA’s Concert Choir and elite Chamber Choir (auditioned
ensembles); supervising University Chorus; spearheading graduate and undergraduate choral recruiting; teaching
undergraduate choral conducting; and teaching graduate courses in choral conducting literature, and recitals for the
MM in Choral Conducting.
Qualified candidates hold a DMA in Choral Conducting, Ed.D, or equivalent (ABD with imminent completion will
be considered for appointment), and have experience working with a diverse student population.
Desired qualifications include significant choral conducting experience, K-12 music education, university choral
conducting, and/or professional and semi-professional choral conducting work.
